Top Tips for Healthy Hair

**Collaborative Post**

Most of us want to achieve long luscious locks that take minimum effort but the reality is our hair needs TLC to achieve what we want.  However, achieving healthy hair isn't just about expensive products or complicated routines. In fact, many women are interested in learning more about natural ways to improve their hair health than relying on serums, treatments or pricey trips to the salon and it can be done!

In this article, we’ll share some key tips to help you nourish your locks from within, adopt gentle washing practices and minimise heat damage for long-lasting shine.

Wash your hair wisely

Frequent shampooing can be tempting, especially if you have an oily scalp. However, it can strip your hair of its natural oils, leaving it dry and brittle. Aim to wash your hair two or three times a week, depending on your hair type. If your hair tends to get greasy quickly, consider using a dry shampoo in between washes to refresh your roots.

When it comes to choosing a shampoo, opt for a gentle formula that's free of harsh sulphates and parabens. Look for shampoos that cater to your specific hair type, whether it's dry, oily, coloured or curly.

Nourishing your hair from within

Did you know that hair health starts beneath the surface? What you eat has a significant impact on the strength and growth of your hair. Ensure your diet is rich in protein, such as lean meats, fish, eggs, legumes and nuts – all of which are excellent sources of protein.

Zinc is another crucial nutrient for hair growth, as a zinc deficiency can lead to hair loss. Include oysters, pumpkin seeds, chickpeas and red meat in your diet to boost your zinc intake. You could also consider taking hair vitamins to encourage hair growth and increase hair thickness and overall health.

Finally, omega-3 fatty acids play a vital role in scalp health and hair growth. Fatty fish like salmon, mackerel and herring are packed with omega-3s. If you're not a fish fan, consider incorporating flaxseeds, walnuts, and chia seeds into your diet.

Don’t skip on conditioner

Many people need to pay more attention to the importance of conditioners. Conditioner replenishes moisture lost during shampooing and protects your hair from environmental damage. It also helps to detangle hair, reducing breakage during combing.

Apply conditioner to the mid-lengths and ends of your hair, avoiding the roots. This will prevent your scalp from becoming oily. Look for conditioners that contain ingredients like shea butter, coconut oil, or argan oil for added hydration and shine.

For an extra boost of moisture, consider using a deep conditioner once a week.

Protect your hair from heat

Heat styling tools can be a great way to achieve a variety of hairstyles. However, excessive heat exposure can damage your hair, leaving it dry, frizzy, and prone to breakage.

To minimise heat damage, always use a heat protectant spray before blow drying, straightening or curling your hair. These sprays create a barrier between your hair and the heat source, helping to prevent damage.
