9 Things To Do With The Kids During Summer Holidays

**Collaborative Post**

If like most of the other parents on the planet, you are dreading the six-week summer holidays then fear not. There are loads of things to do, some which cost a small amount and others that are free with a little forward planning. If you are feeling the pinch like a lot of families then always opt for the free things, you may be surprised at how many there are. Take a look below for a wide variety of activities that will keep the kids entertained all summer, hopefully you won’t hear the words 'I'm Bored’ come out of their mouths, well not too often anyway!

Visit Museums

If your kids don’t want the learning to stop or you still want them to take new information in during the summer then there is nothing better than a museum. If it is hot outside then a museum is the perfect place to be, the aircon will likely be on full blast to keep the whole place cool. There are plenty of museums to choose from, and you don’t have to go to the big fancy ones in London. However, if you did want to venture into London then you have the options of art galleries, the science museum, and the natural history museum. All of which are very fun for kids.

Stay At Home

There is nothing better than a day spent at home, that is if the kids are kept entertained. You may be surprised at the activities you can do within your own personal space. If the weather is nice then you could get the pool out, or invest in a brand new one! If you have garden play equipment with swings and slides then this can keep the kids happy while you chill out and read a book. If you have a summer house then this is a great place to chill as they don’t get too hot in the sun.

Send To Grandparents

You may have a day or two where you need to get some work done. This is the ideal time to schedule some quality time with the grandparents. If they are close by then they may have already offered to have the children for you. Grandparents are an asset to families all over the world and children will never forget the time they get to spend with them.

Swimming Pool

If you don’t want to put the pool up in the garden and your children are competent swimmers then you could take them to a local pool. During the summer months a lot of pools have floating obstacle courses and giant floats to play with. A lot of pools specify that children need to swim unaided to go on these so they are great for older kids. Check out the timetable and costs to see if it fits around you and your budget. You could even get a group of their friends together to make it even more fun for them.

Go Abroad

You may really want to take your kids abroad during the summer holidays. Getting away from everyday life provides a much needed break for some families. You may have been saving up since the previous summer and are really looking forward to surprising the kids. You may have even managed to arrange something amazing, like Disneyworld without them knowing. A lot of families take the six weeks to venture to Disney as it gives them time to rest and recuperate on their return.

Cinema

During the summer months a lot of films are released. The film companies know how hard it is to be cooped up indoors with nothing to do, or they just know when the majority of people are off school and work. If there are films you want to see or that the kids want to see then get these booked in. Believe it or not, cinemas do still sell out occasionally. This is especially true for the bigger movie franchises like Minions and Marvel.

If the Cinema doesn’t fit in your budget, don’t panic. You can recreate the experience at home, for a fraction of the cost. Get the kids to buy their cinema tickets from you, pick the film, grab some snacks, and snuggle down on the sofa to watch a fan favourite.

Go To The Park

Something free for everyone to do over the summer is head to the park. The park can be a place that parents dread when all the kids are off as it can be packed. However, if you schedule an early morning visit or late evening trip then it shouldn’t be so busy. However, if you live in an area where your children know other children then it can be a fantastic way for them to burn some energy with their friends. Take some food along with you and you can make it an all day thing, maybe message some of your mum friends to bring food along too. You can all have a big picnic in the park, have a gossip, and watch the kids play.

Beach

Do your kids love swimming in the sea? If so, arrange a day trip to your local beach. There are some places which are nowhere near beaches, however, you could probably get to one by train or car. If you decide to have a day out at the beach then make sure you pack all the essentials, like sun cream and swimming costumes. Once the kids have had enough of the sea and sand then you could grab a chippy lunch and hit the arcades for a bit.

School Clubs

Lastly, if you find yourself working a lot during the summer holidays and you don’t have any family members to help out then you could arrange for the kids to go to school summer camp. Your children’s primary or secondary school will usually have a few weeks of camps and activities planned. Be aware of costs, as they soon add up. The great thing about school clubs and camps is that your children will know some of the other kids there.

Hopefully you found this article helpful and that it gave you loads of ideas of what you and the kids can get up to this summer.
