5 Signs Your Child Might Requires a Private Tutor

**Collaborative Post**

AD: There has been a sharp rise in the number of parents seeking help when it comes to their children's education and in children that are receiving private tuition in at least one subject. It is estimated that 25% of children have personal, one-to-one or group level support to help them make progress at school. This is believed to be even higher in London and amongst privately educated children. The question is - is it really necessary?

There is no simple yes or no answer, however there some cases where having extra help in the form of private tuition can be very beneficial for children. This might be because they have fallen behind, are struggling with a particular subject or maybe they have been out of school for a prolonged period of time. In the post we’ve teamed up with a junior school to share the benefits of private tutoring and helping you to decide if a private tutor is what your child needs.

Special Educational Needs

If your child has special educational needs such as dyslexia or ADHD, they may need additional support to ensure that they’re comfortable and confident with what they are being taught. More time may need to be spent going over topics to ensure that they’ve fully grasped them. Tutors are able to tailor their lesson plans as they deal with individual students and those in small groups. They can spend as much time with their pupils as needed and many also have experience in working with SEND students.

Time Off School

If your child’s had to take time off school, they may find it difficult to adjust. They may need time to jog their memory and learn the content that they’ve missed. A tutor can help with this and make for a seamless, stress free transition.

Entrance Exams

Many parents also turn to tutors in preparation for end of year assessments and entry exams. Private schools are highly sought after and require entrance exams as a part of the application process. Revision is essential to maximising a child’s chances and if it’s something that they struggle with, a tutor can make sure that it’s done. They can help them by addressing their weaknesses and preparing them for the kind of questions that they can expect.

Help with Homework

If you’re a busy parent as many are, a tutor can offer some help. They can go over homework with children and supplement their learning, helping them to make progress at school.

Challenge Their Ability

Children that are academically gifted often have tutors, despite doing well at school. This is so that they can be challenged and pushed to excel as often school work isn't challenging enough for them and can mean their ability goes unchallenged and their true potential not really being allowed to show.

These are just a few reasons as to why you may choose to hire a private tutor for your child. Whilst they may be thriving at school, they may be lacking in confidence and need someone like a tutor to start believing in their ability.
