Home Improvements That Could Add More Value to Your Home

 **Advertisement Feature**

For many of us (myself included) lockdown provided a great excuse to tackle some of the home improvements and decorating I have been promising myself I would do for ages! I work from home anyway but since my husband was furloughed we figured now was the best time to get all the jobs done we had been wanting to do but time just got away from us.

There are many reasons why people choose to decorate or carry out home improvements. It might be that you just like to change up the way your home looks or you are looking to give it a fresher feel. Or perhaps you are thinking of selling your home and want to get the best possible price for your house? Well if the latter if you, keep reading as I have listed some ways below in which you could increase the value or your home and help potential buyers see its full potential!

Updating the Windows

Replacing old windows can be a large cost but it will not only help keep your utility bills down with less heat escaping through old windows but it can also transform the look of your home both outside and inside. Nobody wants to step into a cold or draughty home and if you are showing potential buyers around in the winter this may be even more obvious.

If you have older style wooden or aluminium frames these could be replaced by uPVC frames which ultimately provide the highest level of thermal comfort. Having double glazing throughout your home will also make your windows much more energy efficient. There are plenty of uPVC window styles to choose from including sash windows, bay windows or casement windows and you can even choose coloured glass for your windows too if you are looking for a totally unique look for your home.

Adding a Conservatory

We all want more space right? If you want to add more space to your home or you are short on space for entertaining etc why not consider adding a conservatory to your home. Not only will it provide extra space but they can be a great selling point when it comes to selling your home. A well built conservatory can provide a beautiful relaxing space in your home and are perfect enjoying the sunshine, using as a craft or workroom since they allow so much light in or even using as a dining or entertaining area.

Creating light with a Lantern Roof

Have you ever heard of lantern roofs? Me either until recently but now I have seen them, I really want one! If you have a space in your home that feels small or dark then a lantern roof can raise the headspace of a room while flooding it will loads of natural light. Lantern roofs can be installed on virtually any flat roof and can turn even the darkest room into a light and bright space that would be perfect for relaxing or entertaining.

Lantern roofs are creating using high-grade aluminium which is combined with PVC and precision engineering to create a wonderful product that can transform your existing flat roof. Not only that but lantern roofs come in a variety of colours, finishes and designs such as white, grey or black, a more traditional wood effect - including Irish oak, golden oak, rosewood or mahogany or some quaint English style with chartwell or cream.

Refresh the Bathroom and Kitchen

Estate agents will often say that the biggest selling point of a home is a modern bathroom and kitchen and that is probably because they can be the most costly rooms to have to replace if needed. But if your kitchen or bathroom is looking a little worse for wear it doesn't mean you have to fork out for all new, in fact there are many ways you can make your old kitchen/bathroom look refreshed.

If your tiles are a bit old fashioned or are looking tired/stained spruce them up with a coat of tile paint. Not only is this easy to apply but can totally transform the look of any room with just a coat of paint! You could also replace any handles on units and cupboards with new ones, replace things such as taps that may be old or leaky (and much more cost effective than replacing the entire sink!). Also a lick of paint around any room is always going to brighten it up but remember to use light, bright colours such as whites, creams or pastels to make a space feel lighter (don't forget the ceilings too).

A spot of Gardening

Now this might seem like a bit of a small thing considering the other things listed above. However when people come to view a home, the first thing they are probably going to see, before they even step into your home, is the front garden or entrance way to your property. This can really set the tone for any viewing so having this space looking neat, tidy and welcoming is super important.

Not only that but many people, especially families will be looking for a nice garden space in any potential home. It doesn't have to be fancy or eye catching but any potential buyers needs to be able to see how they could use the space. Keeping it simple but again neat and tidy will help them to be able to vision how they would set the space up if they were to own the house.

If you are thinking of selling your home hopefully some of these tips will help you get the most out of your property. When thinking about selling try to forget what you love and what you want out of the home and put yourself in the position of a potential buyer. If you are hoping to appeal to families think about what they might want such as an easy to maintain garden and lots of space!

If you have recently sold your home or have any tips to share about adding value to your home please do share them in the comments below.
