Finishing Touches That Could Transform Your Home

**Advertisement Feature**

When we think about our homes we want to make them places where we love to be, we want them to reflect our own personalities and most importantly function in the best possible way for the way we live. However we also want our homes to be practical, but does being practical mean you have to sacrifice style? I say definitely not, your home can be practical as well as reflecting your own style and using the perfect finishing touches can really help. Whether you are looking to do the work yourself or enlist the help of a company such as Reyes Custom Millwork, there are some lots of ways you can transform your home and make it perfect for you.

Here are 5 ways in to help you add some stylish touches to your home without losing its functionality and still making it practical to live in.

Designer Radiators

Radiators are something almost all houses have and they are pretty essential especially when winter comes around! However just because they are an essential doesn't mean they have to be boring, in fact you could even go as far as making the radiators in your home a stylish feature.

Gone are the days of bulky white radiators, now your choices are almost endless. So whether you are looking for sleek flush radiators that blend in or long tall column radiators that use minimal space there is a solution for every room in your home. You can now even find radiators that are curved or fit into corner spaces too. Whether you are looking for a stunning electric radiator or a standard convector radiator don't settle for lost space or ugly designs when it comes to having a radiator. Not only will choosing a "designer radiator" look much better and save you space in your home but it can add value to your home too.

Feature Walls

Choosing décor for your home is a big decision but if you are really looking to "pack a punch" in a room a feature wall could give you just that. Selecting a neutral colour for the rest of the walls in the room can really make the feature wall pop more.

Rendering is a great way to create feature walls in your home. It gives you the ability to add texture, colour and interest to any room. You can use it to create a unique and eye-catching focal point in any area of your home, from the living room to the kitchen. Rendering can be used to highlight a particular area, create an accent wall or even create a bold pattern on the wall.

To create a feature wall you can of course you a bold wallpaper perhaps with a burst of colour or a fun print on.  You could also just use paint, painting your feature wall with one big burst of colour and then using accessories to tie this in to the rest of the room. But you could also use pictures too! That could be paintings, abstract art or a large feature wall of family photos in frames of different shapes and sizes. The great thing about feature walls is you can really use your imagination and get creative with it, there are no right or wrong answers its just about showing your personality and style on the wall.

Lighting

Lighting has the ability to completely change the atmosphere and feel of and room and that is why it can be so important to get it right. Not all rooms will want the same feel or light so its important to consider the room before choosing the type of lighting. There are also different options when it comes to bulbs such as LED and day light bulbs etc.

If you are looking for lots of light in a room such as a living room space using a pendent style ceiling light, spotlights or any kind of over head light is going to allow light to flood around the room. In contrast if you are looking for soft, soothing lighting for a room where you will be relaxing such as a bedroom opting for lamps or lights that can be used on a dimmer switch or a product such as "smart lighting" would be a great option.

A Welcoming Entrance

When people walk into a home the first impression they get is the entrance, whether that is a front door, porch or a hallway making your entrance feel welcome can make all the difference to they way your home feels.

If you have space it's a good idea to have a space or racking for shoes to go so that visitors can place their shoes out of the way, coat hooks for people to hang their coats and perhaps a small table where you can place a plant, picture and also provides a space to leave any post or keys etc. Choosing the right colour for your entrance is another thing to carefully consider. You don't want your entrance way to feel small, dark or gloomy instead you want it to feel open and welcoming. Choosing a light colour but in a warm shade can really help create this.

Soft Furnishings

Soft furnishings are the perfect way to add any finishing touches to your home. Not only do they look great but they can incorporate colour into a room or tie together other colours. They also help to really create the look you are trying to create, so lots of pillow, throws and candles for a cosy feel for example.

Soft furnishings are also another great way to add your personality into a home too, perhaps you love dogs, cats or alpacas or perhaps you have a favourite flower, quote or saying? These all look great on cushion covers are are a lovely little way to add colour and your own personality and style into a room without breaking the budget too.

Of course when it comes to those important finishing touches it really does come down to personal preference and the feel you want to create in your home. What finishing touches do you think are important for your home?

xXx

  1. Brilliant suggestions here. We have been redecorating over lockdown and have a feature wall in every room now. We have gone with a dark blue against white and it looks incredible.

We have also added a gallery wall and I can't believe how much it ties the room up perfectly.

You're right about soft furnishings though. Even some new cushions on the sofa can instantly change a room x

  4. We've been redecorating over lockdown (like a lot of people). We've transformed our entrance hall, and like you suggest, have a massive shoe rack made out of old wine racks. I'm loving that cactus cushion too!

  5. These are all really good ideas for finishing off a room. We always use specifics in properties when renovating. The aim is to create rooms as enticing as possible. Feature walls can work well.

  6. Shoe racks - can't recommend them highly enough. Our hallway would be a mountain of trainers and footie boots otherwise - all muddy of course!
