Choosing the right flooring for your home can be challenging, especially if you’ve never had to make that decision before. Renting flats and houses can take away a significant part of your decision-making process when it comes to changing aspects of your home. So, when you do finally own a place of your own, making decisions such as ‘what kind of flooring are we going to have?’ can be tricky.
As with all aspects of your home, there is not one design rule that works for every room. You may love carpet, but it’s not a practical option for rooms like bathrooms and kitchens. For this reason, when choosing flooring, you need to consider a wide range of factors.
One flooring option which ticks a lot of boxes when it comes being the right choice for your home is vinyl. With that in mind, I’m going to highlight five benefits to vinyl and why it makes an excellent choice for your home.
Easy to clean
Life can get hectic very quickly when you have a family. Because of this, certain time-consuming household tasks can be pushed to the side, and not done as regularly as they should be, or forgotten about altogether. Cleaning the floors is often a time-consuming process, especially with materials like carpet which require specialist equipment.
Vinyl, on the other hand, is very quick and easy to clean. If you regularly sweep and occasionally mop your vinyl floors, they will continue to look fresh and clean. Once a year or so, you can then use a specially designed vinyl flooring cleaner to remove any ingrained dirt.
Durable
When installing a new floor, you want it to look as good as new for as long as possible. With vinyl tiles, you get a highly durable floor which can withstand a large amount of foot traffic, making it a great option for busy families. The reason vinyl can be so durable is because of the way the tiles are produced. Multiple layers formed together to create a long-lasting and durable tile which is chip and stain resistant.
Waterproof
It’s easy to spill liquids on the floor around the home, particularly when you have young children. As parents, we all know accidents happen, and there is often nothing we can do about it. That may be true for your child spilling some juice, but it’s not true for your floors. Choosing vinyl flooring over carpet or wood can help prevent stains, keeping your floors looking their best.
For rooms such as kitchens, bathrooms and dining rooms, having a waterproof and stain-resistant floor is really beneficial. Not only from an aesthetics angle but also keeping in mind practicality. In the bathroom where water can collect in little puddles on the floor, often during bath time, when this is absorbed into the floor, it can lead to significant damage. This could force you to replace the flooring in the future. Wherever liquids are involved, having a floor with is waterproof, and stain-resistant is a great idea.
Wide range of styles
We all have different tastes when it comes to interior design. There is no reason why the flooring in your home shouldn’t reflect your tastes in the same way your furniture or pictures on the wall do. Vinyl not only offers a range of finishes such as stone, wood or more abstract designs in a variety of colours, it can also be installed in numerous laying patterns. These patterns can create both modern, such as geometric patterns, and traditional design, such as parquet flooring, to reflect your style.
Works well with underfloor heating
Something becoming more popular in homes is underfloor heating. The benefits of underfloor heating mean not only is the room heated, but the floor is also lovely and warm. During the dark and cold winter months, this is very appealing! Vinyl flooring works really well with underfloor heating and creates a great combination of a warm and comfortable floor which lets the heat warm the rest of the room. Some other flooring options can inhibit the heat and reduce its impact warming the room so keep this in mind if you’re looking to install underfloor heating.
Don't forget the skirting boards to finishing of the edging of your flooring too. If you fancy having a go at installing your own skirting boards here is a handy video on joining two pieces of skirting board perfectly for a sleep and clean finish to any room.
Do you have Vinyl flooring anywhere if your home? If not is it something you would consider in the furture?
