Finding The Right Flooring For Your Family Home

**Advertisement Feature**

We all want our homes to look nice, to feel welcome and most importantly feel homely and relaxing for the entire family. Decorating any home is a huge part of this, it enables you to put your own stamp on a home, to make it work for you and your family and of course to make it actually feel like... home!

Finding the right flooring for each room of your home can play a bit part in the decorating process too. Most families will want something that is comfortable, homely but also practical too. And with so much choice on the market it can be a tricky choice to make! Of course every home and family is different so the choices you make will depend on your lifestyle. However I have shared some of the most popular flooring choices below and the reasons why they work well for different rooms of your home.

Carpet

Carpet is a great choice for rooms you want to feel cosy, rooms where you want to feel soft carpet under your feet and rooms that you want to keep feeling warm! There are so many choices when it comes to carpet including materials, colours and patterns, whatever room you decide you want carpet it, you will be able to find a style to suit the room.

Carpet works really well in rooms such as bedrooms, that's because not only does it make a room feel cosy but the bedroom is somewhere you are likely to be walking around in with no shoes on. The carpet creates a soft feel under foot and it also helps to buffer noise such as people walking around upstairs which might otherwise sound quite loud on a downstairs ceiling.

Vinyl Flooring

Vinyl flooring is a versatile choice especially if you are looking for something that is easy to clean, simple to sweep and is waterproof too! Vinyl flooring works well in rooms such as the bathroom or kitchen areas which regularly need wiping or cleaning and can really benefit from the waterproofness of vinyl.

Vinyl flooring provides a resilient and slightly cushioned flooring option that is durable and maintenance free. It is also often a cost effective way of laying floor in a room. It often comes in the form of tiles and is available in a range of colours, patterns and effects and is relatively easy to fit.

Wooden Flooring

Wooden flooring gives a classic look which is easy to clean and never really goes out of fashion. It can be left bare of finished with a plush rug to add colour or something softer to sit on in a space. It is suitable for both rooms (except for bathrooms and sometimes kitchens) and can often even add value to your home if done well.

There are two main different types of wooden flooring which are hardwood flooring which is made from one solid piece of hardwood cut to size, with a variety of different types of wood to choose from. Or engineered wood flooring, which is made using a thin top layer of real hardwood which is then applied to layers of plywood to make it durable and strong. Engineered wood is a much more affordable way of achieving a wood floor look however it may not last as long or add as much value to your home as hardwood flooring would.

Laminate Flooring

If you love the look of wood flooring but not the price tag, laminate flooring could be the right choice for you. Laminate flooring consists of a very thin top layer which is then mounted of top of plywood or another compressed fibre to make it more stable, it is then finished off and sealed with a topcoat to make it more durable.

The main difference between laminate and hard/real wood flooring is that laminate flooring doesn't have it real wood top layer. This is reflected in the price of flooring and is why it works out much cheaper than having a real wood floor in your home whilst still getting the wood effect feel and finished look.

We have a variety of the above in our home, with carpet in the living room and bedroom, tiles in the kitchen and vinyl flooring in the bathroom. How did you decide on the flooring for the rooms in your home? Did you go for style, comfort, practicality or a little bit of them all?

xXx
